What is a Giant Hare?
The Giant Hare is a breedable and customisable and equippable familiar which was designed for release for the Easter 2017 event.
These familiars breed in traits and appearances much like the Tark'ee do - as well as inheritable traits which provide a bonus to your Tark'ee. Further, these familiars can be equipped to your Tark'ee import!
Typically, Tark'ee may find bipedal partners and allow them to ride themselves, however most Tark'ee do not appreciate being sat on at all. Giant Hares were bred by the Tark'ee firstly to provide aid to themselves but have recently found use as mounts for their smaller, slower counterparts.

How do I obtain one?
Giant Hare's are only obtainable from other users selling them, or from The Gold Shop when it is opened. You may also breed Giant Hare's together to obtain more.
Breeding your Giant Hare
Giant Hare's require a single Rite to be completed - this can be any of the Rites. Once completed and confirmed, your Hare will obtain their Breeding Badge and may breed from there on out. Breeding your Hare is free - no Tribute is required. You may choose to use items to boost breeding outcomes.
You may be involved in a breeding with a Giant Hare twice per month, no more. This is regardless if you post or if someone else posts a split with you.
Giant Hare's have litters of 1-2 naturally, and a small chance of a 3rd. You may change this with the use of items.
Giant Hare genetics work slightly differently to the Tark'ee. In order to be expressed in the phenotype (the design) the hare needs to be homozygous for that gene - meaning they must have two copies of it.
Example: The genotype (nBe, CoCo, TiTi, nCv, HdHd) would display this phenotype (Collar, Tiger and Hood). In this way, a Hare may actually be carrying genes which are not visible. So their offspring may inherit these 'hidden' genes.
Designing your Giant Hare - genetics
Below are listed the base coats and markings as well as their maximum expression in gold. You do not have to fill the area, but the design may not exceed it.
Design Note: You are allowed to edit the ears, tail and mutations in order to make them fit with the base or one another to prevent clipping and layering issues.

Chromatic Just like the Tark'ee, Giant Hares may express a Chromatic mutation. This mutation overrides the base coat and/or may affect all markings present. A Chromatic Hare is typically represented by contrasting dark, light and saturated pelts. Below is the range allowed for Chromatic Hares. They can express any colour, however regions in the greyed out boxes are not permissible. |
Markings
In the tabs below, you will find the various markings for the Giant Hares as well as their maximum allowed range.
FREE MARKING - ACCENTS
Accents is a marking which can only cover no more than 10% of the Gian Hare. This marking can occur ANYWHERE on the body, must be a natural colour or picked from the design, black or white.

Belly (Be - Common) is a marking which has a hard or soft border (not blended). This marking may be lighter than or darker than the base coat. This is an unbroken marking and may not have holes in it.
Pangare (Png - Common) is a blended marking which must be lighter than the base coat, and must be of the same hue. This is an unbroken marking and may not have holes in it. Pangare is always expressed beneath all other markings. |
Ticked (Tk - Common) is a marking which expresses as short lines along the dorsal surface of the Hare. This marking can be present anywhere but generally doesn't cover any individual Hare (but it can!). This marking may not resemble Tiger or Brindle.
Shown is an example of Ticked covering the back of the neck and shoulders of a Hare. |
Socks (So - Common) is a marking which covers the legs of the Hare. This may be a hard, soft or gradient edge. Socks does not need to be symmetrical and does not need to cover all the legs. This marking may be as small as covering the toes or as large as going up to the shoulder. Socks is a solid marking and may not have any holes in it. |
Rosette (Ro - Uncommon) is a marking which is characterised by broken rings filled with a lighter colour. The rings must be darker than the base coat but the fill may be lighter or darker, as shown in the examples below. This marking can be expressed anywhere on the Hare but typically fades out approaching the limbs and muzzle.
Okapi (Ok - Uncommon) is a marking which creates a banded effect exclusively on the limbs of the Hare. This can be lighter than or darker than the base and may have a hard or soft gradient. The effect may be similar to Tiger in that it creates stripes - however it may also present itself as a gradient marking resembling Socks but with striped holes and gaps in it.
Below in orange is the maximum allowed range, and next to it is an example of a Okapi formed using holes.

Skunk (Sk - Common) is a markings which creates a horizontal stripe along the back of the Hare. This marking must be significantly lighter or darker than the base. This marking may have a hard or soft edge.
Up to 3 stripes may be created (one on each side and one along the back) as shown in the example. |
Oolite (Oo - Rare) is a marking which is shown as 'spots within spots'. This marking must use at least 2 colours and may use as many as 3. This marking may be hard or soft edged but each circle must be distinct from it's surrounds. This marking may be expressed anywhere on the body. There may not be more than a total of 4 circles on a single area - there may be some single spots as well.
|
Patches (Pa - Uncommon) is a marking which creates large areas of colour to appear on the pelt of the Hare. This marking may appear anywhere - may not resemble piebald. You may use up to two different colours for the patches - as shown in the example to the right. This marking does not have to be symmetrical.
Patches may have a hard, soft or blurred edge. |
Piebald (Pie - Rare) is a significantly white marking which covers all other markings. This marking has holes in it which allow sections of the pelt beneath it to show through. To the right is an example of this.
Piebald may express slightly pink tints to the pelt where the fur is shortest - the muzzle, feet, groin and underside. Void (V - Rare) is a significantly black or darker marking. Acts like Piebald, may create more 'unnatural' shapes, and goes above all other markings. |
Mask (M - Uncommon) is a marking which focuses on the face and neck region of the Hare. This marking may use up to 2 different colours together to create semi-intricate markings. These can range from spots, to stripes, to unnatural patterns like stars and hearts. This marking may have a hard, soft or gradient edge and may have holes in it. Mask does not need to be symmetrical.
Flank (Fl - Rare) is a marking which may create intricate patterns or symbols on the flank of the Hare. This marking resembles Mask in that way. You may use up to 2 colours to create unique patterns - this does not need to be symmetrical.
Flank may have a hard, soft or gradient edge, and may have holes in it.
Flank may have a hard, soft or gradient edge, and may have holes in it.
Luminescence (Lu - Rare) is a marking which may be expressed anywhere on the Hare. This marking creates unique areas of pelt which will emit light. This marking may glow with any colour, however the center must be lighter than the glow.
This marking may create it's own regions of effect or may modify no more than two other markings to make them glow. |
Variations and Mutations
Much like the Tark'ee, the Giant Hares have quite a bit of variation in their population. In the tabs below you will find variations on the Fur, Ears and Tail.
Mutations are also present in the Hares (Chromatic - see above).

Giant Hare's have 2 alleles which determine their coat length. Common (W) and Angora (A). These two alleles allow for a total of 4 different coat types in the Hares, these are Common, Longhair, Angora and Sphynx.
Bonuses and Effect
The Giant Hare is an equippable familiar. Among other things, this means that they apply a bonus to the Tark'ee they a joined with. Giant Hare's are unlike other familiars in that the exact bonuses applied are varied and inheritable. These bonuses range from breeding boons to activity success.
Read up on Boost Inheritance below.
Activity Boosts
- Tier I - Brings back 1 additional item
- Tier II - Brings back 2 additional items
- Tier III - Brings back 3 additional items
- Tier IV - Brings back 2 additional items, increases chance of Familiar event
- Tier V - Brings back 2 additional items, increases chance of Familiar event and Egg event
Breeding Boosts
- Tier I - Small chance to roll additional egg
- Tier II - Chance to roll additional egg, chance to inherit a gene from the grandparents
- Tier III - Increased chance to roll additional egg, increases chance of any mutation appearing
Combat Boosts
- Tier I - Increases chance to dodge incoming attack
- Tier II - Chance to decrease amount of damage taken from incoming attack
- Tier III - Increased change of delivering a critical hit
- Tier IV - All stats +20% during combat, increased chances of critical hit
- Tier V - All stats +50% during combat, higher chance to critical hit, increases chance of random encounter during Activities
Player Boosts
- Nestmother (Rare): This boost grants an automatic +4 to the Players Nest Size (increases number of genos you can hold at one time by 4). This familiar can be equipped to a Tark'ee, but the boost will go to the Hare's owner at it's conception.
- Eyrie Warden (Rare): This boost grants an automatic +1 to the Players Eyrie Size (increases number of uploaded Tark'ee you can hold at one time by 1). This familiar can be equipped to a Tark'ee, but the boost with go to the Hare's owner at it's conception.
Boost Inheritance and Breeding
The above mentioned boosts which the familiar applies to your Tark'ee are entirely inheritable.
When breeding two Hare's with the same category of Boost, there is a slight chance for the offspring to inherit a better Tier in that category than the parents. When breeding Hare's of different categories, there is a slight chance to inherit the same Tier in that category, but most likely will be lower.
When breeding two Hare's with different category of boosts, from most common (most likely to be inherited) to rarest (less likely to be inherited when bred to something more common)
Activity > Combat > Breeding >> Player
eg: Breeding a Hare with an Activity Boost to one with a Combat Boost will have a higher chance of passing on the Activity Boost to offspring.
