Dun (nDu, DuDu) is a hard-edged marking which is always darker than the base coat.
This marking is characterized by the presence of a dorsal stripe which flows into striping on the shoulder, as well as tail and lower legs. In it's dominant form, Dun may express further up the tail and begin to express on the flank. Dun may be present on any Variation which comes into contact with it - including making Mohawk a solid darker colour. There is no minimum amount that Dun can be shown - it may simply be a dark stripe down the spine, or just striping on the forelegs. Below is an example of Dun - the striping may continue down the spine subtly (if within range) however the shoulders and flank will exhibit stripes, not a solid band to replicate Saddle. |
